From Foundation to Degree

I'm inspired by surface, colour and use of space.  My subject for the final major project was about the Forties, I am interested in the fashion of that decade.  If I had my way, there would be red lipstick and old style hats everywhere still.

Looking at gas masks at Brewhouse yard I drew various illustrations, applying one for a repeat print.  The colour juxtaposes the subject.  I wanted my design to replicate some thing I imagined Laura Ashley could create, pretty florals, creating a piece aesthetically pleasing from an object which isn't.

Talking to my grandparents during the project to learn more about the concentrated era, gaining inspiration for subjects to draw from their interesting stories.  According to my grandma, to her recollection when she was a young girl, 'there where always pesky crows around, pecking off the tops of those milk bottles and stray dogs everywhere'. This is the reasoning for the repeated designs above.
